OUR HISTORY

Botanical Gardens-7.jpg

The Restaurant is housed in a building located within the Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden, one of the oldest botanical gardens in South Africa, established in 1902. While the restaurant itself has become a cherished feature of the garden, the building it occupies carries its own historical significance.

The building was originally used as part of the botanical garden’s operations and was designed in a simple, functional style typical of early 20th-century structures found in academic and research institutions. Over time, as the garden evolved into a space for both research and leisure, the building was repurposed to accommodate visitors, transitioning into a restaurant that blends history with the natural surroundings.

Whilst modified over time, the restaurant still retains its historical charm, making it a part of the garden's long-standing heritage.
